Dr. Neil Lawrence (U of Guelph 2002) was born on Manitoulin Island and has practiced vet medicine in Orangeville and Trinidad. Dr. Neil has called Callander Animal Hospital home since 2005, and became the proud owner in 2018 when Dr. Ron retired.  Dr Neil and his wife have been beekeepers for about 10

years, and he has completed several bee courses over the years. Dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and two little boys round out the menagerie!

Dr. Nancy Shand (U of Guelph 1976) has heard the calling of beautiful Northern Ontario and moved here from Port Hope. Dr. Nancy brings with her a wealth of knowledge, most recently in Emergency Medicine. Dr Nancy has added some wonderful talents with exotic pets to our clinic, and we’ve had a few pot-bellied pigs in for surgeries this year!  Dr Nancy and Sage, her Border Collie side-kick, enjoy hiking and agility.

Dr. Steve Hotten (U of Guelph 2002) is hanging his hat with us, and we are ecstatic! Beyond his traditional medicine repertoire, Dr Hotten also has training in acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapies, food therapy, and laser therapy.

Callander Animal Hospital has the best staff, hands down. This wonderful caring team has been working hard to help keep up with a very busy schedule, especially when we were down to just one vet a few years back. The clinic wouldn’t be the same without these hard-working and dedicated individuals:

Jewel – Hospital Manager
Julie – Vet Technician
Shannon – Registered Vet Technician (RVT)
Kylie – Registered Vet Technician (RVT)
Jenna – Vet Tech in training
Christine – Vet Assistant
Kaley – Reception, RVT
Susan – Accounts Manager
Kaleisha – Kennel assistant

  • About us

Just 10 minutes south of North Bay, our newly renovated small animal hospital gives us more space to welcome you and your pets!  For years we were too busy and we had to turn away new clients.  Our bigger Hospital and strong support staff means we can finally take New Clients and Patients!  Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, even pot-bellied pigs!

Hey Kids! If you’re lucky enough to come along with your parents, make sure you check out our guinea pig colony, our hermit crab aquarium, and our kids’ books!  If we have any creepy crawlies under the microscope, we’ll get you to have a look (if you’re brave enough!).  Maybe you’ll just have a listen to your dog or cat’s heart, long enough for your parents to snap a picture 🙂

Callander Animal Hospital – we take pride in creating life-long bonds with you and your pet while ensuring veterinary care is affordable.
